Visual Web Pack is NOT for you if...

Roumen: Visual tools for web development are a double-edged sword. They have their advantages and disadvantages. Some users love Visual Web Pack for what it provides but some of them go crazy because by using visual tools they lose a bit of control or they don't fit their development environment. So I'd like to discuss this topic, so that you can decide whether Visual Web Pack is for you or it is not.

A very thoughtful and balanced post from Netbeans evangelist Roumen Strobl that examines some of the reasons you might or might not want to use the new Netbeans Visual Web Pack.

Hi Dave, This comment is unrelated to "Visual Web Pack". The purpose of my comment is a question. First, what I hope we can agree that the following is a statement of fact: That as Roller's founder and lead developer you are an expert on the topic of blog servers ;-) So my question is, how do you currently address comment spam here on your personal blog? I currently do not see evidence of common approaches such as Captcha, math problems, etc. Are you exclusively using comment moderation and Roller's blacklisting? I ask because this fellow blogger today commented that blog spam seems to be getting worse: remotesynthesis.com/blog/index.cfm/2006/12/6/Is-this-Blog-Spamming-at-a-Whole-New-Level Thank you for your continued great work on Roller, ATOM and supporting the Java and blogging communities in general. The only spam protection I use is this: I use the Roller blacklist, I only allow comments on a post for seven days and email notification so I find out immediately about all new comments. That works pretty well and generally, I only get a half-dozen or so spam comments per week.
