The virtue (and vanity) of an open source stack.

Roller sits on a big fat stack of software including Struts, Velocity, Hibernate (or Castor), Servlet Container, Database, and etc. When we encounter a problem, it is often deep down in the stack. Since the stack is open source, we can get the code, fix the bug, and even ship the patched jar, if we so desire. This is what Lance just did. He found that Roller had problems on HSQL-DB due to Castor's limited support of the SQL LIMIT keyword, he fixed it, and submitted a patch to the Castor folks. Now, as the guardian of the Roller Hibernate implementation, I guess I need to do the same thing for Hibernate.

Comments:

I just did this for Velocidoc too ;-) Guess I just don't toot my own horn quite enough. I've offered to help with Velocidoc development/maintenance if the owner will put the files into SourceForge CVS.

Thanks for fixing Velocidoc too, I updated the VelociMacro docs on the Wiki.

err...you'd think with all the neat stuff you guys have with comments, you could get the apostrophes to show up in the comments sections as apostrophes instead of ' "Guess I just don't toot my own horn quite enough"

Thanks Lance for going above and beyond the call of duty on this, nice to see that you care about us hsqldb fans :-) jez.

err, that last comment sounded kinda mean or somethin', and I didn't mean it to. I also noticed that neither Lance or Matt's blogs have this problem - then when I tested it, I noticed the apostrophes get displayed correctly in Opera and Netscape. Here's the problem: In a comment, you put the word "don't" In opera and netscape it shows up normally. In IE6 it shows up as "don't"
