Powerpoint makes you dumb.

Edward Tufte's Cognitive Style of PowerPoint made the rounds a number of months ago in blogspace. Now, the $7 article is featured in the NY Times article <a href= "http://www.nytimes.com/2003/12/14/magazine/14POWER.html?ex=1071982800&en=799ad449b398c2d7&ei=5062&partner=GOOGLE"> PowerPoint Makes You Dumb. I'm working on a Roller presentation and I don't want to make anybody dumb, so I just ordered a copy.

I use OpenOffice. You can do export in HTML, PDF and Flash... Cool feature if you want to publish on the web.

I used Open Office to write and illustrate the original Roller article and I played with the Open Office presentation app as well. It is a clone of PowerPoint and I presume it, in Tufte's view, shares the same flaws.

Actually the content and style of Edward Tufts essays seem to closely resemble the Head First Java or Head First EJB books... Read the sample chapter from http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/hfjava/
