Kicking bricks barefooted.

Andy Oliver: I followed the instructions, step by step, substituting the postgresql script for the mysql and the driver name, etc. (Take for granted that I approximately know how to do these things since I do Java/database-related apps for a living) [...] Nope...It doesn't look like it worked...
Andy Oliver: competence is required to judge competency and that the incompetent often don't know that they are.

I'd like to point out that we have this thing, we call it a "<a href= "http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=47722">mailing list," where we answer installation questions and otherwise help people who are trying to get started with Roller. Look into it and if you have any suggestions for making the Roller install process better, please share them with us.

Comments:

#1 suggestion - make it succeed. #2 suggestion - when it doesn't, cause an error to be displayed with a suggested action To be honest I don't have time for another mail list or to debug the problem. I only have time (for this effort) for the path of least resistance...sorry.

You did not take the path of least resistance, that path is Roller on Tomcat and MySQL.

Resolving the port conflict indemic in installing MySQL next to postgresql wouldn't be the path of least resistance. And I am on Tomcat. Basically I need something that will either work with postgresql or work databaseless. Installing mysql is not presently an option. Anyhow I wasn't trying to piss in your sanka, note that I'm on Sam's list for my incompetence at configuring Gump (which BTW everyone I've talked to is like "Whats gump?" or "WOW you got it working!!! Can you help me????").. So any case, its fine, roller doesn't meet my requirements.

For databaseless option, check out blojsom, http://blojsom.sf.net.

At the least you should have searched the roller-dev and roller-user archives on SourceForge. I don't know that you would have found a solution, but there are a couple people out there using Roller on Postgres.

...and at least one other person who had the same problems and has also shelved the idea of running Roller....
