Java bloggers: abandoning Movable Type?

Pabst Blue Ribbon logo Turn off the LAMP and crack open an ice cold PBR - Pebble, Blojsom, or Roller that is. You're a Java developer so drink your own brew. If you don't like the taste, then join one of those open source Java weblogging projects and start brewin' for yourself.

I'd love to, but my hosting service doesn't allow Java Apps. And I don't think I want to take my monthly bill up from $4.95 to the $15-20 range. As a Java programmer I'd like to have access to a JVM where I could run a Java powered blog, but for now I'll just stay with the 2.6X version of MT I'm running. It does what I need. And with MT-Blacklist I don't really need any other functionality. Erik

I'm currently evaluating options, and I'm leaning towards switching to, and hacking on, Roller. I'm a 'Java Guy' largely because of Roller & Appfuse, time to return the favour. Basically, I have a list of features I'm after, and I'd like to start chatting about implementing them, or find out if they're already possible? Perhaps an entry from you would help? Or perhaps I'll post an entry on koziarski.net outlining what I have in mind....

[Trackback] I make my living deploying J2EE technologies like Struts & Hibernate, I love my job, and the money's not bad....

Well, I have no problem paying money for a good tool. Movable Type is still the most flexible, powerful blogging tool out there.

You are correct Sam. Movable Type is a fine piece of software at a reasonable price, but that is not going to stop me from taking advantage this opportunity to promote open source Java-based weblogging software.
