"Gilad Bracha, a computational theologist ..." Did I read that right? What is a computational theologist?

You got that right. Here's Gilad's explanation of his interesting job title.

Given all the hoopla about Ruby (and to a lesser extent Python), what language would you recommend to a beginner? I have dabbled in Java, and have found the "verbosity" to actually help me understand what the code is doing. Many coders I have talked to, however, say they can do the same programs in Ruby or Python and do them 2x + faster, and that both are easier to learn than Java. The one downside of Ruby, it seems, is the lack of publicly available libraries. I am not planning on becoming a career developer, I wouldn't say I totally exclude the option either. For now, it is more to write some programs for my own interest, and to do some prototyping for bigger applications I may have developed. My interests are wide-ranged from web apps, desktop apps, web services, and some simple AI stuff. Thoughts?
