Gosling responds

James Gosling responds to criticism of the Sun-Microsoft settlement and on Stallman's latest anti-Java jabs. I like his responses and I think it is great that he is using his weblog to respond, but his responses don't really shed any light on the partnership and technical cooperation aspects of the deal.

Comments:

David, Here's an interesting question: why exactly do you feel you have a right to know the details of the deal? I just find these complaints about the little 'substance' of the deal very strange. It's not like we ever expected corporations to be forthright and honest with us before. But somehow, perhaps because Sun seemed to embrace the concept of a community and the whole JCP, people feel free to continually criticize Sun for not being open enough as though Sun had more than just a responsibility to turn a profit.

I don't have a right to know, but as a shareholder of Sun I'd like to know what they are doing to build shareholder value. I think they are revealing no details of technical cooperation because there are no details to be found.
