Trackback support in Roller.

I just committed the code for Trackback to Roller. Roller now acts as a Trackback server, accepting Trackback pings, and Roller can also act as a Trackback client. The Roller Editor UI now includes a Trackback page that allows you to send Trackback pings for each of your weblog entries and that allows you to view the response from the target Trackback server.

Trackbacks are displayed along with other referers (which are harvested using a Java version of Mark Pilgrim's Linkback technique) via the new #showDayReferers() macro.

I will now test Trackback by sending a ping to the Movable Type Trackback test server. It worked! Please send me a Trackback so that I can test my ability to accept pings, the Trackback URL for this entry is:

It appears that trackback isn't quite working. Here's the error that the latest moveable type gave me. Let me know if you need any more information or assistance. I'm really looking forward to trying out roller. Ping 'http://www.rollerweblogger.org/trackback/roller?trackback_support_in_roller' failed: HTTP error: 405 HTTP method GET is not supported by this URL

Thanks for the test. That will be easy to fix. I had assumed that a Trackback ping was a POST.

The error is still happening, I take it you haven't installed the fix yet.

You're correct that a trackback ping should be POST. As per the trackback specification, "Note: in older versions of the TrackBack specification, pings are sent using HTTP GET requests. This behavior is deprecrated; support for GET requests will be removed from the Movable Type implementation in January of 2003." Now, that's just MovableType, but Roller and others can choose to support GET trackback.

Trackback should be working now for GETs and for PUTs. Incoming Trackbacks will be treated as comments.
