In the style of Steal these icons / Steal these buttons: java.blogs

Comments:

Dave, I have been thinking about this idea/feature for roller & I would like your feedback. I was thinking of generating the email address of the weblog owner as images (Steal these icons style) in a servlet based on settings in roller using Java2D. This would display the email as a image and reduce spam (I have already been spamed) and email address is displayed in the nice manner. Your thoughts?

A better way to "encrypt" e-mail addresses would be to use Hiveware's Enkoder Form (http://www.hiveware.com/enkoder_form.php). We might be able to "fake" a submit of the form and grab the returned values.

GTMcKnight, the java.blogs badge is for blogs that participate in the java.blogs aggregator http://javablogs.com.

Matt, I don't think I'd want to be relying on someone elses site that way. And I'd rather have a technique not dependant on javascript. Unfortunately there are no simple general solutions to this problem (I've read up on it extensively in the past). Various "munging" techniques can be overcome, and generating graphics has obvious downsides...
