Eclipse for Solaris x86 no longer available

I was using Eclipse (both 3.0.1 and 3.1M3) on Solaris x86 and it used to be on the download list, but now it is gone. WTF! I was hoping that, maybe, they'd switch the Solaris x86 build of Eclipse from Motif to GTK. I mean, how hard can that be? Instead they've taken it right off the list. I guess Eclipse.org is not as independent of an organization as I had previously thought. They must take orders directly from Palmisano. I want my Eclipse!

So do you think the message is Solaris 10 is a threat? What gives you that idea.

Cool. Thanks. I just installed Eclipse from blastwave.org. I don't why I didn't check there first.

Hi Dave,
We really honestly don't take orders from Palmisano. Really. Honestly. I hope you will go back to thinking we're independent, because we truly are.

We've never supported x86 Solaris directly with the Eclipse Platform. I was actually very happy to see that blastwave.org was making it available. That's great news.

Glad to see you're using Eclipse. Please let me know if you have any other questions about Eclipse or the Foundation.

/mike

Mike Milinkovich
Executive Director
Eclipse Foundation

I was (mostly) kidding about that. I think Eclipse and the foundation are good things and I really appreciate your response. Butr you guys did have Solaris x86 builds available on your site (3.0 and 3.1) and now you don't. What happened to those builds? Why have they been removed?

So why not switch to JBuilder Foundation Edition. Same features as Eclipse and it works on Solaris for x86...

Hi, I've just added instructions for building Eclipse 3.0.2 on Solaris 9 x86 in GTK mode (not Motif). http://eclipsewiki.editme.com/CompilingSolarisX86GTK Takes about 1/2 hour in total on my laptop to get up and running. :)

Hey Dave. As far as I can tell there was never an "official" port to Solaris x86. But you can go vote for one here: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=84344 . Now that Solaris 10 is out demand should increase for this and builds will follow demand.
