No Panther for this cat.

Apple has roughly 1% of personal computer marketshare, so why am I hearing so much about the new Mac OS release? Seems like everybody I know is excited about Panther and every weblog I read is Panther, Panther, Panther. But no Panther for me because I don't own a Mac. In fact, I've never owned anything manufactured by Apple, until now that is. I went out yesterday and treated myself to a 20GB iPod. What a beautiful and useful device. I'm a little worried that the iPod is like a gateway drug and I'll soon find myself jonesin' for a Powerbook and waiting in line for new Mac OS releases.

My first Apple product was an iPod and then a couple of of days later I bought a nice accessory - a 12" PowerBook. You know it's gonna happen, Dave!

Oh, it is a gateway drug. You'll get addicted to the nice packaging if nothing else.... of course, if you get the developer seed you can download new OSs weeks before the release.

Well, that's what happened to me ... started with an iPod and decided I needed an accessory for it. Wound up with a PowerBook G4. Apple is definitely digital crack - without the brain damage!

I did it the other way around - I have been an Apple-head for years now. Its a decision you'll never regret. The best personal computer in the world is a 1GHz 12" PowerBook with plenty of RAM (an extra 512MB should do it). If you need raw speed, a dual 2GHz G5 is the only way. Buy a 2nd-hand 12" PB on eBay and give it a try.
